I miss having a status. Like, being in the second grade at El Rodeo School, or in the twelfth grade at Putney School, or in Fleming House, Caltech, or an assistant editor at The Physical Review, or a member of Twin Oaks Community, or a member of my group house in Brookline. I no longer belong anywhere. Of course, I am a citizen of a rich & free republic, with a name & address, and various institutions (such as LiveJournal) recognize my account numbers, enabling me to go thru certain motions. That, for the time being, is a consolation. But it could all be canceled any minute, without anyone being the worse for it.
